Meditation is part of universal human wisdom, practised by people from all faiths or none. In many traditions it is an ancient form of prayer, with the aim of bringing
the distracted mind to silence and stillness, and to simply rest in the presence of God. All welcome to come along and try meditation which is simple and peaceful.
This is an opportunity to learn about its origins, and to discover its relevance as a form of prayer for our contemporary world. It is necessary to book either online

St James Priory 30 Year Anniversary
Bristol’s oldest building is of course more than 30 years old, but it was in 1992 that the signing of the lease was done that gave the redundant Medieval St James Priory a new lease of life!
Robert Fitzroy, Earl of Gloucester and illegitimate grandson of William the Conqueror, founded the Priory of St James in 1129. It has been used as a place of worship for almost 900 years. Robert developed the town of Bristol into a major provincial capital. Between 1122 and 1147 he rebuilt the castle as an imposing stone monument. and at the same time founded St James Priory.
During the Anarchy, a period of civil war in England between 1135 and 1153 following the death of Henry 1, Robert supported forces loyal to the Empress Matilda (Henry’s daughter) against those of Stephen (Henry’s nephew) who proclaimed himself king. Bristol was the centre of Earl Robert’s resistance against Stephen who was for a time imprisoned in Bristol castle.
A Faith Full Journey
The Department of Adult Education and Evangelisation has a new series of online conversations planned, ‘A Faith Full Journey’. With this series we encourage you to simply turn up, come and deepen your faith and invigorate your formation. For ‘A Faith Full Journey’, we will be embracing a hybrid approach to faith forming experiences, this series will be synchronous and asynchronous. Quite simply the real time will be recorded so that you can watch in your own time individually or as a group.
Our first session is on Thursday the 22nd of September, and we welcome Avril Baigent, Pastoral Ministry Advisor for the Diocese of Northampton. Avril will focus this opening session on Young People and the Church – Exploring the faith identity of Catholic teenagers. The conversation will take place on Microsoft Teams, 7.30pm – 8.45pm. All are welcome to join!
